Hello Assumption Family,

¶1 – This Sunday’s Feast

¶2 – 2021 Stewardship campaign kickoff

¶3 – New priest assigned

¶4 – Weekly calendar with links to meetings and services

This Sunday is the 10th Sunday of Luke as well as the feast day of St. Nicholas the wonderworker (yes, that St. Nicholas).  On this Sunday we remember Jesus’ healing of the women bent over for 18 years, and the rebuke Jesus received for healing on the Sabbath.  This Gospel ends in a verse we can all understand plainly, “all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by Him.”  This has been a year full of anxiety, fear and frustration, yet we have endured by God’s grace.  Let us take time also to reflect on the all the glorious things done by God for us!

This Sunday is also Stewardship Sunday and the start of our 2021 campaign.  We will not be having our annual stewardship dinner this year, but we are still hoping for a high participation from everyone.  There are two ways to pledge for 2021.  Either by filling out the traditional card or pledging via the stewardship portal on our refreshed website: www.assumptionem.org.  For those in church tomorrow you will receive a stewardship packet, if you cannot attend it will be mailed.

On January 1st Assumption will be welcoming Fr. Panayiotis Hasiakos, Prsv. Nikolia and their 4 children into our parish family.  Fr. Panayiotis has served both the parishes of Holy Apostles in Westchester, IL and St. Demetrios in Chicago as an associate priest.  I am grateful for the time God has allowed for me to share with you as your priest and pastor, and I am certain you will be in great hands going forward. Axios to Fr. Panayiotis!

This coming Saturday, December 12th  is the feast of St. Spyridon the Wonderworker, while we will not be having services this Saturday I would like to remind everyone that traditionally on this day we increase our fast and remove fish from diets while increasing prayer and alms.  It is also a great day to begin/restart fasting if you have forgotten or grown tired. Either way, kali dynami, good strength, to all of us as we close in on the wonderous day of God’s incarnation.
